The Honorable Saa Emerson Lamina took visa applicants by surprise at the United States of America embassy in Freetown. Upon arrival at the embassy of the United States of America, he was immediately recognized as a Member of Parliament by some of the visa applicants who were already in the queue, and two of them voluntarily opted to give their spaces to him, and he said, “I deeply appreciate your humble offer, but let me stand at the back and not to disadvantage those who came before me. » The statement of the Honorable Member became topical on the lips of the visa applicants and even the embassy security officers. Some described him as a politician with « humanity, » “caring politician, while others say he is a “people-centered politician.”.
Honorable Saa Emerson Lamina is an exceptional Sierra Leone politician who served as the first youngest mayor in the historical development of Sierra Leone and in West Africa at the time of his inauguration in 2012.
He hails from Koidu town, Kono District, eastern Sierra Leone. He attended the United Methodist Church Primary School and the Government Secondary School for Boys, Magburaka. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A.Ed.) degree in Linguistics and double Master’s degrees in Educational Administration (M.Ed.) and Peace and Development Studies (MA-PADS) from Njala University.
After his mayoral reign in 2012, he was elected Member of Parliament for Constituency 030 Kono District under the Coalition for Change Political Party in March 2018.
Subsequently, on June 24, 2023, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina was elected as a Member of Parliament, representing the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party in the sixth Parliament. He is also representing the Republic of Sierra Leone at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament in Abuja.
Upon his appointment by H.E. Dr. Rtd. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, heexpressed his unflinching commitment to putting the country and people’s interests first in their deliberations in parliament. He further mentioned that he is grateful to the leadership of the SLPP, and he believes he can do more for the people of Kono and the country at large.
The Honorable Member of Parliament revealed that “it is under the administration of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party and the leadership of Dr. Rtd Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, Kono district has got a university, 24-hour light, construction of roads, a maternal center of excellence that is in progress, free quality education, etc., and this motivated the people of Kono to give President Bio a second term with no run-off.”
