The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is tasked with the responsibility of contributing to the transformation of Sierra Leone into a middle-income country through leveraging the touristic potential of the Country
The second leg of the ongoing Budapest-Bamako Rally 2024, which commenced in Hungary comprising participants who are now heading to the pristine and touristic scenes of Sierra Leone arrived on the 3rd March, 2024 and were highly welcomed and received by the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Dr.Khadija Grace Ahene Kamara and Team including other stakeholders in the country.
Speaking to Afriqu EuropeMagazine, one the participants of the Budapest Bamako Rally, says that Freetown was chosen to host the rally due to the security situations in Mali, shifting from the original destination of Bamako. Noting that Sierra Leone is a beautiful country which had played host to so many other people across the world
“I’ve been Travelling with Budapest Bamako Rally for so many years and this has been going on for almost 20 years – and it’s been a fantastic experience,” says theparticipants. ” We love every second of it and the participants had a great time and this is a very authentic and genuine way for us to discover West Africa and the Sahara.”
Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Dr.Khadija Grace Ahene Kamara describes the adventure as a remarkable venture noting that it will contribute to the country’s revenue generation.
The Ministry is looking at a multiplier effect to the economy. Imagine thousands of people in the country and you know that they’re definitely have to Lodge in hotels and you know what that meansto the economyofthecountry.
” So certainly there will be a marked improvement in the revenue generation over the next couple of days. We’re also happy about the integration – because they’re here to see Sierra Leone.
This year, Sierra Leone welcomed over one thousand participants with over 500 vehicles, driving through major routes from Bureh Town in the Western Area Rural to the Finish Line at Lumley, Western Area Urban.
